I have envelopes full of prints and negatives from the pre-digital days, too, still waiting for me to "find the time." What I need is a secretary.ĭavester is correct: the only practical difference between the Finder and iPhoto, regarding access capability and info about files, is familiarity.īoth act as databases, and iPhoto, like iTunes, actually is one. I can't imagine an organizing program would do any better unless I spent the time with that, too. But that's mainly because I haven't found the time to do better organization. I will admit that trying to find something in my Pictures folder, which is mostly 'organized' into folders labeled by date range and a tag or two, is not easy. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) - Carl Sagan It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. "In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. Trying to manage iPhone photos without iPhoto sounds like an exercise in futility and frustration. The iPhone is designed around the use of iPhoto for photos. Why anyone would want to do this is beyond me, because the Finder is rather primitive so doesn't get you anything extra, and on top of that can screw up iPhoto indexing. You want the "original" file in your finder? Open iPhoto and drag photo(s) to Finder/external drive/CD/DVD, Zip disk or whatever. Even better, it will let you use Graphic converter to do those things as well, without having to take any extra steps, just a simple preference. It will even allow cropping and color correction - all without destroying the original file. It will let you batch rename, batch re-date, detect faces and places, make slideshows, integrate with Pages/Numbers/Keynote/MAIL and do photo books. Bonus is that it will automatically put files in the right place for you. Its like a giant file cabinet for your photos. I hear this same thing a lot about iPhoto (Im sure we have discussed it here a MRF many, many times.) - iPhoto doesnt "hide" anything. Maybe you could use iPhoto for your iPhone.
